East London, Autumn 1977, and Kenny Inn and his girlfriend Natalie have both got the ache. Just 18, Kenny is already disillusioned with life, and yearning for past times, but a series of events and recollections at his brother's moving-in house party reveals the true nature of his past life. The piece contains explicit language and depicts contemporaneous attitudes that some may find unpleasant.
Read MoreBy way of explanation! After reading the biographies of Nick Drake by Patrick Humphries and Trevor Dann, together with the very poignant and cathartic piece by Ian MacDonald, I was rather taken with the more esoteric descriptions of Nick Drake’s life and work. Nonetheless, it occurred to me that you could achieve very much the same thing by incorporating Nick Drake’s song and album titles within a narrative, which begs the following questions. Are we just making up things about his life, by using the song and album titles as prompts or props? Or are the songs and album titles truly descriptive of his experience? In response, I put my piece of poetic prose together and I leave you to decide. I did follow a set of rules. The narrative must keep in with the stories, whether true or imagined, that accompany Nick Drake’s life. Each sentence/stanza must contain at least one song or album title, and no title can be repeated. The titles are restricted to the albums Nick Drake released, and the recordings made in a ‘professional capacity’, that is as featured in the album ‘Made to Love Magic’. There can be no reproduction of lyrics. In the end, whether or not you like the piece, you can use it as a word puzzle. See how many titles you can find. Note, there is one, albeit related, imposter!
